Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Know Chinese ("Know Chinese," "we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use the Know Chinese mobile application (the "App"). We designed the App to work primarily on your device and to require no user account.

Information stored on your device

Your learning preferences, settings, saved items, and local progress are stored on your device. The App's dictionary content and core learning features are available offline. We do not receive the text of your dictionary searches or the paths you draw while practising characters.

Information collected automatically

We use the following Google Firebase services:

Firebase Analytics

We collect limited app-usage information, such as screens and features used, general interaction events, app version, device type, operating system, and approximate technical information. Search terms and handwriting paths are not sent; for searches, we record only broad properties such as input type and length.

Firebase Crashlytics

If the App crashes or encounters a technical error, diagnostic data may be collected, including crash logs, stack traces, app state, app version, device model, operating-system version, and installation identifiers. We use this information only to diagnose problems and improve stability.

How we use information

• Provide, maintain, and improve the App.
• Understand which features are useful.
• Diagnose crashes, database failures, and performance problems.
• Protect the reliability and security of the App.

Third-party processing

Analytics and diagnostics are processed through Google Firebase. Google may process this data on servers in countries other than your own under its applicable safeguards. Learn more in the Firebase Privacy and Security documentation and the Google Privacy Policy.

Data sharing and advertising

We do not sell your personal information. The App does not display third-party advertising and does not use information for cross-app advertising or tracking. We share limited technical information only with service providers described above, when required to operate the App, or when required by law.

Retention and your choices

Local learning data remains on your device until you clear the App's data or uninstall it. Firebase retains analytics and diagnostic information according to the retention settings and policies applicable to those services. You may stop future collection by uninstalling the App. You may contact us to ask questions about privacy or request assistance concerning information associated with the App.

Children's privacy

The App is a general-audience learning tool and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can review and address the matter.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the limited information processed through the App. No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the App changes. The revised policy will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
